Star channels, messages, or files

Use stars to mark important items in Slack and help keep them top of mind. 🌟

Any messages or files you mark with a star are added to your Starred Items for easy reference. Starring a channel or direct message will bump it to the top of your channel list.

Note: Items you star are visible only to you. To mark a message or file as important to other members, try pinning the item to a channel.

Star a message or file

Try using stars to mark messages and files you'd like to keep handy.

1. Move your mouse over a message, file, or file comment.
2. Click the gray   star icon and it will turn yellow. Hurrah! You’ve now starred the item!

Click the  star icon on the upper right to view all your Starred Items.

1. Touch and hold on a message or file you’d like to star.
2. Tap Star Message or Star File. That's it! You've starred the item! 

To remove a star from a message or file, touch and hold on the message and tap Remove Star.

We're sorry! It's not possible to star a message or file from the Windows Phone app at this time. 

Star a channel or direct message

When a channel or direct message conversation is starred, it will appear in the Starred section at the top of your channel list.

1. Open the channel or direct message you'd like to star.
2. Click the  star icon below the channel name. The star will turn yellow to indicate that it's a starred channel. 

Tip: On desktop, you can also star a channel by entering the /star slash command.

View your Starred Items

Any message or file you mark with a star is added to your Starred Items.

1. Click the  star icon in the top right to view all your Starred Items.

1. Swipe left to open the right sidebar.
2. Tap Starred Items.

2. Tap ▼ in top-left to open the menu drawer.
3. Tap Starred Items.

We're sorry! It's not possible to view your Starred Items from the Windows Phone app at this time. 

Tip: Your Starred Items can be used as a simple to-do list: items appear in the order you star them, and you can unstar to remove a task from your list. 🌟
