Set who can make announcements
By default, all members have the ability to use special @mentions and the #general channel to get the attention of many members at once. Here are some ways people can make an announcement in Slack:
- Use @here to notify everyone in a channel with an active status
- Use @channel to notify all members of a channel
- Use @everyone to notify every member of your workspace
- Post a message in the #general channel where everyone is a member
Manage announcement permissions
Workspace Owners can update permissions to let certain members make announcements.
- From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.

- Select Workspace settings from the menu.
- Click Permissions.
- Next to Messaging, click Expand.
- Set who can use @here, @everyone, @channel, and post messages in your #general channel.
- Click Save to finish.

Both Workspace Owners and Admins can set when to show a warning message when using @channel or @everyone mentions to make an announcement.

- From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.

- Select Workspace settings from the menu.
- Click Permissions.
- Next to Messaging, click Expand.
- Choose when to show a warning when using @channel or @everyone.
- Click Save to finish.
