Desktop notifications
Pop-up desktop notifications help you stay on top of activity in your channels and direct messages. You can choose the activity Slack notifies you about:
- All new messages
- Direct messages, mentions, and keywords
- Replies to message threads you're following
- Nothing
If you choose to receive no notifications, we'll show a badge on the app icon if you get a direct message or a teammate mentions you or your keywords.
Turn on desktop notifications
- From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.

- Choose Preferences from the menu.
- Click Notifications.
- Under Notify me about..., choose the type of activity Slack notifies you of.
Note: Your desktop preferences apply to your mobile app by default. To change your mobile preference, check the box next to Use different settings for my mobile devices.
