Remove someone from a channel
Did you know you can remove members from public and private channels? Here are some details to keep in mind:
- All members except guests can access messages and files in public channels.
- Members lose access to messages and files when removed from private channels. They'll need an invitation to re-join.
- Guests lose access to messages and files when removed from a channel. They'll need an invitation to re-join any public or private channel.
- Members can't leave the #general channel. However, if you've invited a guest, you can remove them.

- Click the Show Channel Details icon at the top of the channel.
- In the Members list, click the person you'd like to remove.
- Select Remove from #channel.
- Click Yes, remove them to confirm. The member will receive a Slackbot message letting them know.
Tip: Use the slash command /remove, then the member’s name, for faster removal.
- Click the channel you'd like to remove the member from.
- Type /remove then the member's name in the message field.
- Tap Send to finish

Note: Workspace Owners can set channel management preferences to pick who can remove members from channels.

Who can use this feature?
- By default, Workspace Owners and Admins can remove members from channels. Members can remove others from private channels by default.
- Available on free and paid plans.
